Hospice By The Sea provides end-of-life care for patients with life-limiting illnesses. We work with the patients and families concurrently to provide comfort and relief from symptoms experienced during a chronic long-term illness.
Hospice is about living during the last months, weeks and days of life in comfort, security and dignity. Hospice services are provided at home, assisted living homes, skilled nursing facilities, board and care facilities, acute care hospital, or wherever the patient calls home, surrounded by family, culture and tradition.
Hospice is focused on palliative care, a specialized clinical approach to actively managing pain and other symptoms that allow the patient/family unit to face this journey with security and dignity. Hospice By The Sea also addresses the important aspects of spirituality and psycho-social/emotional needs that we are often faced with during end of life.
Hospice and palliative care practice is an interdisciplinary approach to healthcare. Each patient has a personalized care plan based on their specific needs and wishes. This plan is carried out by a team of professionals directed by the patient’s personal physician and the Hospice physician using sophisticated methods of pain and symptom control.
Hospice by The Sea focuses on the quality of life. Hospice neither hastens nor postpones death, but affirms life and regards dying as a normal process. The hospice movement stresses human values that go beyond the physical needs of the patient.
Hospice By The Sea considers the entire family, including the patient, to be the “unit of care”. Patients and their families are included in the decision-making process regarding the goals of care and methods to achieve these goals.
Hospice By The Sea was founded in 1994 by Kathie Jackson, an R.N., who had a mission to provide patients and their loved ones with comprehensive end-of-life care and influence better care for all in our community. We honor the importance of choice and control for those entering the end-of-life phase so that they may define for themselves the most comfortable and dignified path to live this portion of their journey.
Hospice By The Sea is a non-profit organization caring for patients in San Diego County. It is our vision that no one should end the journey of life alone, afraid, or in pain.
